On Wednesday, June 4, 2014, Matt Guthmiller made a fuel stop at Meridian during his 29,000 mile journey to become the youngest person to fly solo around the world. Matt will pilot his 1981 Beechcraft A36 Bonanza aircraft everywhere from Southern California to New York City to London, Greece, the Middle East, Hawaii and many other stops in-between. He even made a stop in his hometown of Aberdeen, SD on the way to New York. We are glad that Matt chose to refuel at Meridian while at Teterboro Airport!

Limitless Horizons™ is a charitable organization with a fundraising mission to help provide educational opportunities to students underserved in computer science. Matt, currently a student at MIT, is seeking sponsors to join him and Limitless Horizons™ on his great adventure. Matt will be making 25 stops in 14 different countries across five continents during his month-long journey, and is offering advertising space on his plane, apparel, and website to organizations interested in aiding his mission: to inspire his generation on to feats of similar magnitude.

By journey’s end Matt will have set a Guinness World Record™ and provided substantial aid to his chosen charity, Code.org. Through a professionally crafted, widespread traditional and social media campaign, he will have reached a total circulation of over one billion with over 3.5 billion impressions.

“I want to inspire other people to do great things, and I believe computer science is the most powerful tool for enabling people’s dreams,” says Matt. “Code.org is helping to ensure that opportunity is available to everyone. The round-the-world goal of this flight is a great fit with education, as no matter where you are in the world, education opens doors and helps transform dreams into reality.”
